What We Do

T

ropical Taurus produces composite seedstock from a mix of Belmont Red, Senepol and Bonsmara. Being tropically adapted and Bos Taurus, our bulls complement Bos Indicus herds by increasing fertility, heat tolerance, tick and pest resistance, meat quality and MSA grading. Our Tropical Taurus are also able to dramatically inject the poll gene into horn herds which is particularly beneficial for Brahman herds across Australia's sub-tropical environments.

Our herds are located on properties across cattle centres of Queensland. The landscapes are predominantly Brigalow (wooded grassland) running into the semi-arid regions. Our livestock are closely watched and bred to be top performers in these conditions, providing clients with exceptional genetics to perform in harsher climates of northern Australia.

Composite genetics to thrive

We are focused on the identification of the complex trait for fertility firstly in Bos Taurus tropically adapted composites and then Bos Indicius to ultimately ascertain the most advantageous pairing of these genomes for optimised fertility rates

Foundation breeds

Selection of the Tropical Taurus composite occurs through our foundation breeds of Belmont Red, Senepol and Bonsmara. This is done while running our herds on tick-prone, forest country with excessive heat and lantana, grass-feed with minimal or no chemical treatments, ensuring the animals are prepared for the harsher northern Australian climate

Working alongside leading stud operator and genomics expert

We have been partnering with a leading stud operator and genetics pioneer

Partnerships with research institutions

'Calves on the ground' is the most important profit driver for northern Australian commercial producers and of these complex traits, our focus is on fertility. Through our cattle operating partnerships, we are working with Central Queensland University and The University of Queensland to conduct genomic analysis in an endeavour to identify high fertility genes in tropical cattle
